Whilst we understand that no amount of compensation for acts of sexual abuse will be able to heal the trauma and pain suffered, bringing a claim can give you the means to help you or your loved one on the road to recovery.

A claim for sexual abuse can be made through the civil courts or directly to the CICA (Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority). Although, for non-CICA abuse claims. like any other injury claim, there is a three-year limit whereby a claim can be brought, in sexual abuse claims it is very common for persons not to bring an action within this timeframe. The courts can sometimes use their discretion to allow claims to be brought outside of this time limit.

At Ashtons Legal we understand that these times can be extremely difficult for both the victims and their loved ones. While support is available for those who have suffered as a result of sexual abuse, we believe this type of claim requires a lawyer with a high level of specialised knowledge to deliver the best possible result for the victim.

We are therefore, unfortunately, unable to provide legal support for this type of claim. However, our Head of Personal Injury, Richard Foyster (richard.foyster@ashtonslegal.co.uk), will be happy to direct you confidentially to a trusted, specialist lawyer who has many years of experience and success in acting for victims of abuse, and who will be able to provide you with compassionate and confidential legal guidance.

If you or a loved one have experienced sexual abuse there are also many organisations that can offer support, including:

  • Women’s Aid – Women’s Aid is a national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children.
  • Victim Support – Victim Support is an independent charity offering help and support to anyone affected by crime.
  • SARSAS – SARSAS offer helpline and live chat services and offer anonymous and confidential support for people of all genders, age 13+ who have been affected by rape or sexual abuse at any time in their life.
  • Safeline – Safeline is a specialist sexual violence and abuse charity. They provide a comprehensive range of specialist, best practice services to any affected by or at risk of sexual violence and abuse. Their services are free, independent, and confidential.
