Rebecca Gatens - Senior Associate
Rebecca co-heads the transactional side of the Agriculture and Estates team, on sales and purchases of all sizes, from single fields through to whole village purchases and sales.
With land values increasing through development, a lot of her time is spent advising landowners and farmers on how to maximise development potential through overage (to get a second payment on a sale if Planning Permission is secured by a buyer), and also promotion agreements (where a landowner keeps the land but agrees to work with a land promoter to get Planning Permission, with a view to a sale for development).
She also advises on development land including promotion agreements and/or options and overage provisions. Rebecca’s legal background also includes experience in residential and commercial property as this is often required by farming clients.
Rebecca has extensive experience in chancel repair issues, and how landowners and churches should treat these aspects of property law. She has acted for church councils as well as landed estate owners on these and other related issues and has lectured regionally on chancel and related matters to national banks.
Rebecca is a fellow of the ALA and a member of the SAA. She is a Steward for the SAA and the Treasurer of the Suffolk branch of the GWCT.
