Writing Wills ‘requires advice from qualified experts’

Those writing Willsas part of their future estate planning should ensure they seek advice from a properly accredited and qualified professional.

This is the advice of the Fellowship of Professional Willwriters and Probate Practitioners, which reminded consumers not to assume that all of those in the Will writing sector can offer the same level of expertise.

It highlighted results from a survey which showed that 67 per cent of people believe all Will writers are trained solicitors, when in fact many in this industry lack appropriate qualifications.

As a result, the fellowship’s president Rita Leat advised consumers to ensure they deal with professionals with sufficient levels of knowledge and official accreditation.

She said: “People need to check the background of the person who is dealing with their Will to avoid difficulties for their family and loved ones later.”

Earlier this month, the body reminded people not to assume their families will automatically receive an inheritance, as this could leave their families at risk of facing unnecessary legal complications.
