Individuals who are yet to make a Will have been reminded that the financial document is about more than just deciding who gets a person’s money after they die.Brian McMillan, director general of The Society of Will Writers, stated that Wills cover everything, adding issues such as guardians, inheritance tax, asset protection need to be taken into consideration. He explained how the financial document is drafted so that “long-term unforeseen eventualities such as care” are provided for.Mr McMillan added that people avoid making a Will as they are “naturally cautious”.”The reasons are the fear factor; they are fearful that by making a Will they are tempting fate, which of course they aren’t,” he said.Mr McMillan was commenting on the release of research by Macmillan Cancer Support, which found that 46 per cent of respondents to a poll admit they do not talk about death with their family. Some 70 per cent of individuals also revealed that they have not made a Will or left behind any instructions for what to do in the event of their death.Ashtons Legal can offer help to anyone with issues regarding a will.
