Wills ‘are the best way to protect loved ones’

People in the UK have again been urged to make sure they have a Will in place after new research suggested that many have not.

A poll by Barnardo’s found that 58 per cent of Britons have not organised their Wills, a figure which rises to 74 per cent for people who are currently cohabiting.

However, 61 per cent of respondents aged 41 per cent or under said they have already had such a document drawn up, with many saying that having a child prompted them to do so.

Barnado’s spokeswoman Ginny Harris warned that dying intestate can cause a wide range of problems for the relatives of the deceased.

“Making a Will really is the best way of protecting the interests of family and loved ones,” she insisted.

Family law adviser Dale Emch, writing for the Toledo Blade in February, urged anyone who is thinking of making a Will to use specialist estate planning solicitors to do so, pointing out that this is the only way to ensure complete accuracy.

Ashtons Legal has a strong team of estate planning specialists across the region but also now offers Online Willsfor people with straightforward circumstances or those who need an interim measure, such as while waiting for a divorce settlement.
