University staff in Wales facing redundancy
Posted 26/03/2012
Redundancy is being faced by dozens of members of staff at the University of Wales after the educational institution launched a consultation.More than 200 people are currently employed by the university, but they have all been told that their jobs are at risk as a result of a need to restructure the organisation.A spokesman for the University of Wales confirmed that “efficiency savings” were the reason behind members of staff having to face redundancy in the coming months.”The university is committed to minimising compulsory redundancies and will implement a voluntary redundancy scheme and look to redeploy staff, wherever possible,” he said, adding external consultants have been brought in to recommend ways to cut the staff budget. But a source from the university told WalesOnline that a lot of employees are angry at the proposed job cuts, especially as those at the top are likely to hold on to their roles. The University of Wales was founded around 120 years ago.Posted by Ross Strowger
