Solicitors’ advice ‘essential when writing Wills’
Posted 25/11/2009
The Law Society has called on consumers to ensure they employ professional solicitors when producing Wills.
Robert Heslett, president of the body, expressed concern that many people are choosing to forego legal advice on processes such as Will writing and residential conveyancing in order to save money.
However, he warned that this could be a mistake, as doing so can often lead to the inaccurate or unenforceable, which can in turn lead to legal difficulties and the risk of incurring even more significant costs.
Mr Heslett therefore called on consumers to overcome their reluctance in such matters and stated that professional advice is the best way to ensure their Willsare produced with appropriate care.
He said: “Solicitors are qualified, regulated and insured should something go wrong.”
Last week, the society also called on couples going through a divorce to ensure they consult their lawyers in order to make what is always a difficult process as painless as possible.
