Scottish helicopter repair staff choose redundancy over relocation

Members of staff at Vector Aerospace in Scotland have elected to take redundancy instead of relocating to the south of England to keep their roles.Employees at Almondbank were given the chance to carry on in their positions if they moved to Somerset, reports STV.However, only one member of staff at the Perthshire site opted to take the bosses up on the offer and relocate to the south of the UK.The cutbacks at Almondback are needed as a result of a decision by major customer AugustaWestland to take the work on their helicopters in-house at their Yeovil facility.Staff were told there were jobs for them at the Somerset site if they wanted them.Unison recently urged British Gas to help members of staff it was making redundant to get jobs at its rival SSE, which was creating new roles at its nearby call centre. The Southern Daily Echo reported British Gas was cutting 500 positions, while 200 roles were being added by SSE.Posted by Ross Strowger
