Sales rep settles injury case for £45,000

Tom Ranson, a personal injury specialist at Ashtons Legal, represented Mrs G, in a claim arising out of a road accident back in 2010. Mrs G, then 44, suffered a whiplash injury to her neck and psychological trauma.
The insurer did not accept that Mrs G had suffered any significant injury, nor the basis upon which the claim was calculated, and simply offered her £5,000. As they were unwilling to negotiate, Mrs G instructed Ashtons Legal to issue Court proceedings.
The insurer made increased offers as the case progressed, reaching a figure of £30,000. Our advice was that this was still too low, and the offer was rejected. Mrs G’s claim was finally compromised at £45,000 – nine times the original amount offered to her.
Tom Ranson comments: “The insurers were aware from the evidence that Mrs G was quite vulnerable and tried to take advantage of this by ‘dripping’ offers to her in the hope that she would accept. Fortunately, with our support, Mrs G was able to hold out and allowed us to secure an appropriate award of damages for her.”
