On 6th March the Government made an announcement that up to 450 m sq of redundant building space could be converted to up to three units via the permitted development system (with some restrictions) from April this year.  The detail is not yet known, but we do know that these proposals will not apply to what is called Article 1(5) land. This is land within national parks, the Broads, AONBs, conservation areas and world heritage sites. We will publish something more when we get the detailed regulations, but with the restrictions that are going to apply this may not lead to the rural housing boom that some had predicted last week.

For more details please ring Jonathan Long (Head of Agriculture & Estates) on 01284 727012 , or Bob McGeady (Head of Planning) on 07714  281254.
