£37,000 obtained for Suffolk woman whose endocarditis was not diagnosed promptly

Julie Crossley, a medical injury specialist at Ashtons Legal, has obtained a settlement of £37,500 for an elderly lady who is now reliant on family members for her care. Mrs T was admitted to her local hospital with abdominal pain, initially thought to be gallstones. She underwent a range of tests and during these contracted septicaemia from an infection where she had a cannula inserted. The infection was treated and during subsequent tests a heart murmur was heard and the possibility of endocarditis was considered but not pursued properly. It was eventually diagnosed and treated several weeks later but in the meantime Mrs T suffered two strokes which medical experts believe could have been avoided with earlier diagnosis and treatment.
