Tom Ranson, a personal injury specialist at Ashtons Legal, has obtained compensation for Mr M who required medical treatment and specialist hand surgical review after suffering an injury to his hand in a training ground incident at a football club in 2010.

Mr M, who was a trainee professional football player at the time, obtained compensation of £30,000 in a hard fought case with the defendant insurer disputing the claim throughout. The appropriate level of compensation was eventually agreed after Court proceedings were issued alleging breach of the Occupiers’ Liability Act 1957.

Mr M was delighted with the result and entirely vindicated in rejecting the insurer’s earlier offers and the suggestion that he contributed in anyway to his misfortune. This enabled us to achieve a settlement many times more than the original offer made to him.

Tom Ranson comments: “The message is clear – it is vital that injured parties and their lawyers are robust and have the courage of their convictions and refuse to compromise if this is not justified. Early and ongoing assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of a case allows injury claimants to be alive to the issues and to make informed decisions at each step of the process, under the guidance of their lawyers.
