£23,000 for negligent treatment of toe injury
Posted 17/10/2012
Julie Crossley, a medical injury specialist at Ashtons Legal, has obtained a settlement of £23,000 for Mrs N, whose treatment for an injured toe was woefully inadequate.
A podiatrist at her local hospital initially managed to misinterpret the x-rays that were taken of her toe and give her a cortisone injection when it was not appropriate to do so. When the injury had eventually been identified correctly, surgery was undertaken to fuse a dislocated PIP joint (proximal interphalangeal joint), but the ‘K wire’ was removed several weeks earlier than it should have been. The result of this catalogue of errors was that Mrs N suffered considerable unnecessary pain and had to have additional surgery which could have been avoided.
