£20,500 obtained for lady whose hospital treatment contained a catalogue of errors

Julie Crossley, a clinical negligence lawyer at Ashtons Legal, has obtained a settlement of £20,500 for a lady in the Midlands. Mrs P went into hospital for a hysterectomy and came out with a broken ankle, a need for physiotherapy and a much longer period off work than had been anticipated.
Julie explains: “Mrs P’s hysterectomy was performed successfully but the failings were in her aftercare. As a result of inadequate care she passed out in the shower having been left in there alone the day after her operation and when she had been having chest pain during the night. She fractured her ankle and cut her head. She also required further treatment to avoid a deep vein thrombosis.
We see too many of these instances where the primary treatment is carried out correctly and it is the aftercare which fails the patient. Correcting this has to be a priority both for the sake of the patients and to prevent unnecessary additional costs being incurred by the NHS.”
