Julie Crossley, a medical injury lawyer at Ashtons Legal, has obtained £17,000 in compensation for Mr R, a man in his 80s whose surgeons left a swab inside his pelvic cavity during an operation in 2010. Unfortunately Mr R is unable to have further surgery due to other complicating factors and the swab is therefore still in place, even though it is causing on going discomfort.Julie comments: “All too often we handle medical injury claims for people whose surgeons have left a swab, or even equipment, inside them at the end of an operation. One would have hoped that this sort of lack of attention to detail would be avoidable as the impact on the individuals concerned can be considerable.”
