£165K obtained for woman following misdiagnosis

Julie Crossley, a medical injury lawyer at Ashtons Legal, has obtained £165,000 compensation for a woman in her 40s who underwent unnecessary surgery and suffers ongoing symptoms as a result of misdiagnosis.
Ms L was referred to her local hospital with foot problems in the form of a ‘bilateral hallux varus’, where the big toe and the one next to it splay in opposite directions, and an ulcerated bunion. What followed was a sequence of treatment, including surgery, which has left her with long term problems. She can no longer walk normally but has to keep part of her foot off the ground; she is therefore prevented from pursuing her pre-injury hobbies of running and a range of other sporting activities. Experts agreed that with correct early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, less surgery would have been required and the outcome would have been much better.
