The government has been urged to make sure any changes to planning law it implements in the coming months is done so in a positive manner.Kevan Carrick, policy spokesman for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) in the north-east, stated decisions need to be made locally where it is possible to do so.Mr Carrick was among the planning law experts asked to contribute to a new Rics document that recommended changes to legislation to boost developments across the UK and he told the Journal that changes have to be made practically.”Highlighting best practice, critically assessing successes and failures and the sharing of information are going to be essential,” he said.Developers across the UK are calling for the coalition to reduce red tape to allow them to alleviate the housing crisis and James Hopkins, executive chairman of Hopkins Homes, previously told the East Anglian Daily Times that excessive regulation is stifling the sector.Posted by Charles Webb
