A father will receive £1 million in personal injury compensation after an accident at work left him paralysed.

Christopher Holmes suffered major spinal injuries when a piece of flying board hit him on a building site at Longsands College in St Neots, reports the Cambridge News.

He explained he was working on the roof of the school in bad weather conditions when the incident happened.

The 8ft piece of plyboard was blown right at him and it knocked him out. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, where doctors found he was partially paralysed.”When the news was given to me I was, understandably, devastated. With my line of work and lifestyle I’ve always been very active,” said Mr Holmes, who added it has taken him a long time to come to terms with the impact of the accident. The father-of-three was taken to Addenbrooke’s, which is run by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
