Oxfam has been given over £100,000 after a bet that was left to the charity in a Will was paid out by bookmaker William Hill.In 2003, tennis fan Nick Newlife staked £1,500 on Roger Federer winning seven Wimbledon titles.Sadly, he passed away three years ago, but left the wager in his Will to Oxfam. Federer beat Britain’s Andy Murray in the Wimbledon final yesterday (July 8th) to reach the milestone.Andrew Barton, head of relationship marketing at Oxfam, said: “All of Oxfam have been cheering Federer’s progress for the past couple of weeks.”He added the real hero is Mr Newlife, for the “generous gift” of leaving the bet to the organisation in his Will.Oxfam has already benefited from a wager placed by Mr Newlife, as it previously scooped £16,750 from a bet of £250 at 66/1 on the Swiss world number one to win at least 14 grand slam titles before 2020.Posted by Simon Crooks
