MPs ‘should do more to support Norwich pubs’
Posted 08/06/2012
MPs have been urged to use their power to provide more support to pubs in Norwich.Publicans and landlords attended a debate that covered topics such as supermarkets selling spirits and beers at low prices in an event that coincides with the ten-day long City of Ale 2012 festival.Norwich North MP Chloe Smith and Norwich South MP Simon Wright were questioned, while Clive Lewis, Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Norwich South and Tim Hampson, chairman of the British Guild of Beer Writers, also sat on the panel.According to a report by the Eastern Daily Press, Mr Lewis called for business rates to be revamped, with pubs among those to be given a discount.”I believe we should be more supportive of pubs. One of the joys of coming here is seeing how publicans and people are supporting pubs which support their communities,” Mr Hampson added. The City of Ale event is set to come to an end on Sunday (June 10th).Posted by Edward O’Rourke
