More than £30 million spent on taxis for NHS patients
Posted 23/10/2011
Figures have been published to show that more than £30million has been spent on taxis for NHS patients since 2008 because of a shortage of official non-emergency transport. Ashtons Legal’s Sandra Patton, a specialist in the medical injury team, comments: “This not only has implications for patient safety, and there are cases where ill patients who need medical support have been transferred by taxi rather than ambulance, but in a cash-strapped NHS it is clearly vital to target resources where they are needed, especially into nursing staff”.
