More people seeking help after redundancy
Posted 23/06/2009
The number of people seeking help on issues such as redundancy has gone up in the last year, according to a new study.
Insurance firm LV= stated that in the last year, the volume of calls to its legal advice helpline has gone up by more than a fifth.
Many of these enquiries were said to relate to redundancy, as a growing number have lost their jobs because of the economic downturn.
Indeed, official figures show that unemployment in the UK is now at 2.26 million – the highest level in 12 years.
John O’Roarke, managing director of LV= home insurance, said: “An increasing number of people are looking for legal help because of employment problems caused directly by the recession.”
Meanwhile, the Institute for Public Policy Research has stated that unemployment in the UK is likely to continue rising next year, even if the economy stabilises during this time.
