Proposals from the Legal Services Board (LSB) to regulate Will writing have received the backing of the Law Society. In April, the LSB announced it wants to bring Will-writing and estate administration under the scope of legal services regulation and the idea has won support.According to president of the Law Society John Wotton, this would lead to customers who are drafting a Will being afforded greater protection.”However, the LSB must now ensure that there is a level playing field between the different providers of Will-writing and estate administrations services, ensuring the highest quality of protection for consumers,” he said, adding selecting a solicitor to draft a Will ensures a high level of service and expertise, as well as guaranteed client protection.Announcing the proposals two months ago, chairman of the LSB David Edwards stated a significant number of people drafting Wills are receiving a poor service, which could cause problems for their beneficiaries in the future.Posted by Simon Crooks
