Insurance summit could penalise the injured

  • Posted

The Prime Minister has called an ‘insurance summit’ to tackle ‘this damaging compensation culture’ in relation to whiplash claims and the increase in motor insurance premiums.

Despite Lord Young concluding in a well researched report in 2010 that the UK did not have a compensation culture, and the evidence that premiums have risen to counterbalance the loss of investment income on those premiums, it appears that the injured person will lose out to a concerted campaign on behalf of the insurance industry.

Simon Davis, who heads the Catastrophic Injury team at Ashtons Legal, comments: “It is notable that no-one in government appears to be listening to those hurt through no fault of their own, who lose out in wages and treatment costs”.
