Ashtons medical injury specialist Sharon Allison, will on Friday 16 September represent at Inquest the family of a teenage girl from Thetford who died of a pulmonary embolism, having been prescribed contraceptive pills for medicinal purposes. Charlotte Lockwood, aged 15, died in August 2014 having been prescribed the contraceptive pill as a means of controlling heavy menstrual bleeding. Soon after beginning the treatment she began to lose hair and put on weight, and suffered from dramatic mood swings. By April 2014 she was suffering severe back pain. The family visited or contacted the GP surgery several times during this period.
In a statement, Charlotte’s mother Emma Cruickshank says: “The family will never fully recover from losing our beautiful Charlotte, nothing can bring her back to us. Charlotte had her whole life in front of her and for her to be robbed of such opportunity at such a young age is tragic beyond words. We are keen to learn more details of the circumstances surrounding her death through the Inquest process.” Mrs Cruickshank will not be present at the inquest. Since her daughter’s death she has developed severe post traumatic stress disorder and struggles to leave the house.
Sharon Allison comments: “‘There are some disturbing aspects to this case which have greatly upset the family, and which I know they are keen for the coroner to pursue. ‘It would however be inappropriate to voice them before the inquest has reached its conclusions.’
