Hospital deaths rise at the weekend

The Nursing Times is reporting today that figures have shown hospital patients are more likely to die if they are admitted to hospital over the weekend rather than on a weekday. The article can be found in full from the link below.
Sharon Allison, a clinical negligence lawyer at Kester Cunningham, comments: “The lack of Registrar/Consultant presence in hospitals at the weekend has been a longstanding problem. We have seen many cases where junior doctors have, through a lack of expertise, made unsafe decisions and compromised patient safety in the absence of a more senior colleague”.
