Holidaymakers win compensation claims for chemical burns

A group of 42 UK holidaymakers have won their compensation claims against several tour operators after suffering chemical burns in the pool of a hotel in Corfu.
The British travellers took legal action after 33 of them suffered from painful rashes due to the chemical content in the swimming pool at Mitsis Roda Beach Hotel.
Among those to initiate a claim was Essex couple Susan Austin and Lee Sanders, whose entire family were affected by the burns, reports the Essex Echo.
Ms Austin stated that the pool was left open for use by the hotel management despite their awareness of the problem.
After the hotel’s doctor eventually admitted that the burns had been caused by the chemicals in the pool, the families involved chose to pursue a compensation claim, with Ms Austin winning an undisclosed sum from Thomas Cook.
Earlier this month, a holidaymaker was awarded a record £240,000 in compensation for a holiday illness suffered after eating contaminated food.
