The Ministry of Justice have recently announced that as from September 2015 they will be providing funding for DNA tests.

The courts have always been able to order DNA testing in Children Act cases but the costs of these have in the past been the responsibility of the parties to the proceedings.

A dispute over paternity can be a major issue to overcome and without clear evidence regarding paternity it can result in delays in the system.

It is hoped that this change will assist parents who no longer have access to legal aid and find themselves in a position where paternity needs to be established in order to move things forward as quickly as possible.
