First Scotland East staff could face redundancies

Up to 200 employees at a bus company in Scotland could be facing redundancy.First Scotland East has announced services in both East Lothian and Midlothian could be cut as it closes one of its depots and reduces the size of another, the Daily Record reports. It has established a consultation process with trade unions about job losses at the two sites – located in Dalkeith and Musselburgh.Managing director of the bus company Paul Thomas said the redundancies do not reflect the work of staff members or their commitment to their jobs.”I cannot speak highly enough of their professionalism and dedication. We will be doing everything that we can to assist affected staff,” he added.First Scotland East blamed the high cost of fuel, funding cuts and the currently tough economic climate as the reasons for the changes.Scotland is not the only part of the UK facing redundancies, as over 200 staff members at the University of Wales could also lose their jobs following the restructuring of the organisation.Posted by Hywel Griffiths
