Family solicitor retires after nearly 27 years

Ashtons Legal is sorry to be losing Brenda Head who is retiring as a lawyer after nearly 27 years. Brenda set up our predecessor firm, Graham & Oldham’s family department in the Ipswich office in 1986.Brenda will, however, continue to work with the firm as a Mediator on a consultancy basis in our Ipswich and Felixstowe offices, alongside Tina Inniss. Mediation is one of the few family law services which is still eligible for Legal Aid funding, after funding was cut for many services in April this year. For many couples whose relationship is in difficulty, mediation offers a viable alternative to going through the courts. It helps couples to resolve conflicts and reach agreements about matters such as their children, finances and property.Stephen Williams, Head of Ashtons Legal’s Family team, comments: “As one of the largest family law practices in Ipswich, we are pleased to be able to offer a mediation service, which is a viable option for many couples. Not only is it less costly and less stressful than going through the courts, the process can often be more beneficial for children as it reduces conflict and enables couples to move on with their lives as quickly as possible. As the legal landscape is changing and funding for legal services is being cut, it is vital that we are still able to offer services which can be funded for those who need it.”
