E.ON to cut 500 UK jobs through voluntary redundancy
Posted 21/09/2011
E.ON has announced it is hoping to cut 500 jobs through voluntary redundancy following the sale of its distribution arm Central Networks earlier in the year.
Dr Paul Golby, chief executive of E.ON UK, stated the decision to let 500 members of staff leave their positions came after a “deep” and “rigorous” review.
He added that it is the aim of the company to achieve the job cuts through voluntary redundancy if possible.
Dr Golby said: “I’m very aware that this will be a difficult time for our colleagues.”
It is expected that the majority of the roles will be lost at the company’s head office in Coventry, although a support site located in Nottingham is also likely to be affected.
E.ON explained that it is not able to comment on how many posts could be cut at each office.
Earlier this summer, the supplier put its electricity prices up by more than ten per cent and gas tariffs by over 15 per cent.
