Ecommerce laws ‘a barrier to growth’
Posted 07/06/2012
Ecommerce rules and regulations have been described as outdated and a barrier to growth.According to Michael Ross, director of eCommera.com, the laws are being crafted by people who do not have any knowledge of what ecommerce entails.”They’re coming up with a set of laws 18 years after the industry has been created and, unfortunately, they’re the wrong laws at the wrong time, executed in the wrong way,” he said, claiming it is causing problems for successful firms that have been operating well for the last 15 years.Mr Ross picked up on the so-called “cookie law” as one that is “bad”, noting a lot of businesses are simply ignoring it.According to the Information Commissioner’s Office, this law came into effect on May 26th.Business owners were told they cannot rely on their customers having read a privacy policy that is hard to find and may also be difficult to understand.Posted by Edward O’Rourke
