A 60-year-old disabled man who was left bleeding in the road after his mobility scooter hit a pothole has said he is considering claiming personal injury compensation.

Spencer Pindus, who has multiple sclerosis, had been crossing a road in Romford on his scooter when one of its tyres hit a large pothole on South Street.

He was thrown off the vehicle and required treatment from paramedics for injuries to his face. He may also have to have surgery at a later date.

Mr Pindus said he is now thinking of taking legal action against Havering Council for failing to keep its roads in a suitable state for local users.

A spokesperson for the organisation said the hole has now been filled in and the accident is being investigated.

AA president Edmund King recently warned that local roads are in a “dreadful” state following the cold winter and urged authorities to commit millions of pounds in funding to repair them.
