Court approves substantial settlement for Norwich teenager

The Courts have this week approved a compensation settlement which will enable Tahlia Downes from Hellesdon near Norwich to receive the support she needs for the rest of her life. Tahlia, who was born in the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital in 1995, suffers from cerebral palsy and requires full-time care. She lives at home with her parents who have provided devoted care to her since her birth.

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Trust accepted 70% of the liability for Tahlia’s brain injury at a meeting in 2009, and as a result of interim payments a new house has already been purchased for Tahlia and is being adapted to her needs. Much of her settlement will take the form of an index-linked annual payment to fund her care and ensure her financial security throughout her life. The total is likely to amount to over
