A 20-year-old who was involved in a road accident has received £1.35 million after making a personal injury compensation claim.

Sophie Wilkinson of Bishop’s Waltham sustained horrific injuries when the car she was travelling in as a passenger collided with a lorry, Portsmouth News reports.

Having spent months in a coma, Ms Wilkinson has required 24-hour care ever since and is still living at a rehabilitation centre in Dorset.

The incident happened when Ms Wilkinson was just 17 and she received what doctors described as some of the worst injuries they had ever seen.

Damages of £1.35 million have now been approved, but this figure is likely to increase significantly when a further case is heard later this year.

It is expected that the injured party’s family will use the money make upgrades to their home so that Ms Wilkinson can move back in.

Claiming compensation can often be an ordeal for families, but Ashtons Legal aims to make the process as quick as possible.

Around eight people die on British roads every day, despite the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents suggesting that the UK has one of the safest road networks in the world.
