Compensation of almost £500,000 following family tragedy on Suffolk road

Ashtons Legal’s personal injury team were instructed by a family involved in a head on road collision in 2009. There were four members of the same family in the car; Mr and Mrs X, their daughter Y and her son Z. Sadly, Mrs X died a month after the accident as a result of her injuries. Mr X suffered multiple internal and orthopaedic injuries. Miss Y too suffered multiple internal and orthopaedic injuries and significant surgical scarring, which despite revision surgery to improve the appearance, will leave her with permanent visible scars.Justina Molloy, a member of the team who represented the family, says: “We were able to secure an early interim payment which allowed Mr X to go to a five star rehabilitation home on his discharge from hospital as there was no one at home to care for him. Funds were also obtained to pay for additional treatment such as vestibular physiotherapy to alleviate his on-going symptoms of dizziness and tinnitus. This was a classic example of a case where using a local law firm, and appointing us straight after the tragic accident occurred, enabled the family to get the maximum level of support to which they were entitled to help with their rehabilitation.”In addition to the two claims for personal injury, there was also a claim on behalf of the estate and dependants of Mrs X. The combined settlement of the claims has been agreed at almost ?500,000.
