Commercial property ‘highly vulnerable to flooding’
Posted 09/07/2009
Commercial property is more susceptible to flooding than fire damage, experts have warned.
According to MDA SearchFlow, flooding has become an increasingly serious issue for commercial property holders in the last few years.
Indeed, the organisation said that such buildings are now far more likely to be hit by floods than be burned down in a fire.
It has therefore stressed the importance of carrying out risk assessments, as floods could threaten a company’s assets and lead to a significant loss of orders and customers if the terms of commercial contracts are not fulfilled.
David Kempster, marketing director at MDA SearchFlow, commented: “As the risk of flooding in the UK increases, the need for an accurate flood risk assessment has become an essential part of the due diligence process.”
Several areas of Norfolk were hit by flash floods only last month.
Norfolk County Council described it as “serious”, noting that rising water affected a number of homes and businesses in places such as Heacham and Hunstanton.
