Care funding – where do I start?
This week we have heard from C4’s Dispatches and BBC Woman’s Hour how complicated and confusing our system for funding care can be.
The different branches of health and social care funding make it difficult enough. Then there are issues of postcode lottery, inconsistent information and different approaches by care homes, Local Authorities and Clinical Commissioning Groups. Many people are not being informed about their, or family members’, rights and the options available to them.
This week’s Budget announcement failed to provide any chance for improvement; limited funding was announced for the NHS and there was no mention of social care. A Green Paper looking at the funding of social care will be published next summer, yet it is unlikely to resolve the issues many face with the current flawed system.
At Ashtons Legal we have an experienced team who can consider your specific family circumstances and advise you accordingly. The team is headed up by Lynn Wicks, an accredited Solicitor for the Elderly and Dementia Friend. She regularly advises on care funding options, the NHS Continuing Healthcare process and challenging Local Authority and CCG decisions.
