Car crash victim secures

A man left paralysed after a car crash has secured what is thought to be the highest ever personal injury compensation package in the UK.
Wasim Mohammed from Walsall is to receive a personal injury payout worth £11.1 million after suffering life-changing injuries in the road traffic accident in 2006.
Mr Mohammed, now 22, was a passenger in a car involved in a collision when the driver attempted to overtake at a junction and smashed into a vehicle which was turning right.
He sustained a broken neck and damage to his spinal cord, meaning he now has no movement in his legs and very little function in his arms.
The driver of the car was subsequently convicted of careless driving and Mr Mohammed employed personal injury lawyers to help him obtain compensation.
Birmingham County Court was due to hear the case this week, but an out-of-court settlement was reached just hours before it was scheduled to begin.
The personal injury compensation package will see Mr Mohammed given a lump sum of £4.25 million and receive annual payments of £235,000 to pay for his care for the rest of his life.
In 2007, a court awarded Waseem Sarwar £9.5 million in compensation after he was left severely disabled following a car accident caused by an uninsured driver.
However, the personal injury payment made by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau was reduced to £7.1 million as Mr Sarwar was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
