The victim of a car accident has won personal injury compensation from her husband’s insurers.

Carol Coleman had been riding in the passenger seat of her spouse William’s Renault in August 2005 when he lost control of the vehicle and spun it onto his roof.

She broke her back and the resulting nerve damage has left her with permanently weakened limbs, according to the Salisbury Journal.

To cover the long-term costs of her care, Ms Coleman took legal action against her husband.

She has now successfully claimed compensation, although the exact amount has not been disclosed.

The High Court judge said Ms Coleman may be entitled to more in the future if her condition worsens.

Many people believe that it is not possible for passengers to claim compensation from drivers who cause accidents, but this is untrue.

As this case shows, it is entirely legitimate as it is their responsibility to drive safely. The remuneration will come from the insurers, or the Motor Insurers’ Bureau where this is not possible.
