Can chocolate keep us thin?
Posted 26/03/2012
It has been reported that regular chocolate intake can actually help us keep slim rather than add on the pounds!A recent study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine revealed that despite boosting calorie intake, there was a clear correlation between regular chocolate consumption and lower BMI in the study. This correlation remained even when other factors, such as levels of exercise, were taken into account. No link between quantity and lower BMI was found however, so it seems it is how regularly chocolate is consumed rather than how much is consumed which is the key.
Lead author Dr Beatrice Golomb, from the University of California at San Diego, said: “Our findings appear to add to a body of information suggesting that the composition of calories, not just the number of them, matters for determining their ultimate impact on weight.”
Samantha Collins, a medical injury solicitor at Ashtons Legal comments: “There have been studies before linking chocolate consumption with varying benefits for the body, such as a healthy heart and lowering cholesterol levels. Sadly, there are probably an equal number of studies revealing the negative effects of chocolate consumption, especially when eaten in excess. From a legal point of view, this is unlikely to prompt any litigation. However, it does mean that we can all now enjoy the odd chocolate treat with the thought that it may be doing some good to our bodies, for now at least!”
