Britons urged to take out wills

Consumers have been warned that if they do not write a will, most of their assets could go to the state after their death.

St Richard’s Hospice in Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire is currently campaigning to highlight the consequences of not planning ahead.

Tricia Cavell, fundraising manager at the facility, said the awareness drive has become necessary because lots of people do not see writing a will as a priority.

Indeed, she told the Droitwich Advertiser that Britons rarely display a sense of urgency regarding this issue, despite the potential consequences of not having a will.

“They don’t realise that if you die without a will, you will have no say over how your estate is split,” Ms Cavell commented.

She added that writing a will is “extremely important” and could make a “huge difference” to the lives of loved ones who are left behind.

According to a poll by consumer group Which?, 56 per cent of Britons do not currently have a will.
