British Gas urged to help redundant staff get SSE jobs

British Gas should help workers facing redundancy to get new jobs at rival energy firm Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), according to Unison.Unison national officer Mike Jeram pointed out 500 members of staff at British Gas’s Southampton call centre are going, while SSE is set to add a further 200 roles at its own facility in Havant, reports the Southern Daily Echo.”I am aware there is a fair distance between Southampton and Havant but British Gas need to look at how they can assist with helping its current staff to travel to Havant,” he said, adding British Gas should help their loyal employees to find new roles.A spokeswoman for SSE stated the company is expecting to field calls from British Gas staff members with the skills to work in its call centres.The 200 new SSE staff members are set to help the firm with its commitment to a billing review for all its customers to ensure they are on the right tariff.Posted by Ross Strowger
