BRC welcomes employment law measures

The British Retail Confederation has revealed it is backing employment law measures announced by the coalition government.Stephen Robertson, director-general of the organisation, stated it will hopefully reduce the burden of rules and regulations firms in the sector have to abide by.”Inconsistent and disproportionate enforcement practices are massive drains on businesses so these proposals … are good news,” he said.Mr Robertson explained the extension of the primary authority scheme so that it applies to age sales of knives and fire safety and earned recognition are among the employment law changes supported by the body.He added amendments to the rules and regulations should make it easier for law enforcers to catch those retail companies operating illegally and make it more straightforward to run an honest, law-abiding business.Speaking at a question-and-answer session at the Unlocking Growth conference in Norwich earlier in the month, business secretary Vince Cable called for the right balance to be found regarding employment law, the Eastern Daily Press reported.
