BPF backs streamlining of planning law

The British Property Federation (BPF) has announced it is backing a streamlining of planning law in the UK.It was responding to a key recommendation of the review published earlier in the month by British Land head of planning and environment Adrian Penfold, which aims to drastically reduce the complex web of planning consents.Transport secretary Justine Greening revealed the decision period on whether the stopping or diversion of a highway for the purpose of a property development is to be granted to be reduced from 13 weeks.Liz Peace, chief executive of the BPF, said: “Stopping up and diversion orders have long caused great cost to applicants and have delayed some schemes by over a year.”She added the government needs to ensure its changes to planning law are going to be “enforceable”.The BPF previously backed the publication of the government’s upgrade to planning law, the National Planning Policy Framework.Posted by Charles Webb
