Ashtons Legal’s Financial Controller arrested in charity stunt
Posted 14/03/2014
On Friday 7 March, Ashtons Legal’s Financial Controller and Chairman of Bury Chamber of Commerce, Colin Knight was arrested and taken into custody. He was charged with pilfering leftover food from Chamber of Commerce breakfast meetings to take to the Ashtons Legal offices.
Colin was in fact taking part in the St Nicholas Hospice Care ‘jail and bail’ event to raise funds for the hospice. It costs £11,000 a day to keep the hospice, based in Bury St Edmunds, running – most of which has to be raised through fundraising.
Colin was held along with a number of other high profile suspects, including Suffolk County Councillor, Sarah Stamp and Tim Passmore, Crime Commissioner at Bury Police Station.
Bail for each of the suspects was set at £500. Colin was held for three hours until his bail had been paid. Colin has in fact raised over £800, and a staggering £12,000 has been raised from the event overall. Donations can still be made via Colin’s Just Giving page.
After his release, Colin said: “Being handcuffed and travelling in the back of a police van is not to be recommended, but it was great fun to be associated with such a good cause.”
Thank you to everyone who donated. Find out more about St Nicholas Hospice Care here.
