Ashtons Legal sponsored Katie Baker, a pupil at Acle Academy in Norfolk, who has cycled 100 miles to raise funds for a project in Kenya.Acle Academy is part of a group of three schools in Norfolk which supports ‘Project Porridge’, a project aimed at ensuring that children in Nairobi, Kenya, have access to education. The project supports two primary schools in Nairobi, one element of which is to promote the wellbeing of the children by providing them with a morning meal all year round.Katie, who is 14, has been selected, along with a small group of other pupils, to visit the school as part of a development programme for young leaders. Her fundraising efforts will go towards Project Porridge, as well as to help fund her trip to Kenya.Katie, along with fellow pupil Owen Gooch, and a support team which included both Katie and Owen’s parents, set off from Kings Lynn on 27 May with the aim of cycling 100 miles in two days around Norfolk. They visited places which spell out the word Kenya. After King’s Lynn came East Runton, followed by North Walsham and Great Yarmouth. They finally reached the finish line in Acle, where they were greeted and cheered on by their fellow young leaders.Katie has so far raised over £500. The group of young leaders will be heading out to Kenya at the end of June.
