Jennie Pratt, a partner in the Ashtons Legal Wealth Management team, takes on the role of Chairman of the England and Wales Regional Committee of STEP on 1 November 2010 for a two year term. This is a prestigious appointment in the wealth management sector; there are over 6,000 STEP members in the UK and over 15,500 globally. Members of STEP include the most experienced and senior practitioners in the field of trusts and estates.

Jennie has previously been Chairman of the local Cambridge branch of STEP, a role which will be taken on by Mary Ambrose, another tax and trusts specialist within the Ashtons Legal team, from the beginning of 2011.

STEP was founded with the aim of bringing together all the senior practitioners in the field and cutting across old established professional boundaries. Through meetings, seminars, lectures, national and international conferences and the exchange of technical papers and reports, members share information, knowledge and experience, and benefit from the network of contacts that membership provides.

Jennie comments: “STEP is well known and respected in professional circles but not as well recognised as we might like among the public. Anyone whose assets falls above the Inheritance Tax threshold and who is therefore considering making a tax planning Will can be reassured that if they seek advice from someone who is STEP accredited, they are dealing with someone who has the technical skills to help them achieve their objectives.”
