Ashtons Legal Solicitors has raised just over £18,400 for local charities in the past year.

The majority of the funds (just over £13,000), were raised for the firm’s three chosen charities of the year for 2013 -14: the emergency medical charity, Magpas, Macmillan Cancer Support and Nelson’s Journey, which supports bereaved children and young people across Norfolk.

These funds have been raised by staff taking part in cake sales, raffles and dress down days. Ashtons Legal staff also took part in a ‘wear orange’ day for Magpas and Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

A wide range of events were also held for Ashtons Legal clients and contacts, including a charity golf day in Norfolk, a champagne tasting event in Bury St Edmunds, a treasure hunt in Cambridge and a bowling event in Ipswich. The firm’s popular ‘Wills Week’ initiative, which took place in February 2014, was particularly successful, contributing £5,400 to the total.

In addition to the amount being donated to the three charities, Ashtons Legal staff have taken part in a range of other activities, raising an additional £5,420:

  • A dress down day across the firm’s offices raised over £300 for the DEC’s Philippines appeal;
  • Staff at our Felixstowe office raised £870 for St Elizabeth Hospice in Ipswich, which included Richard Foyster and Roger Loomes taking part in a charity leg wax;
  • A team of six staff raised £1,000 for St Nicholas Hospice Care in Bury St Edmunds at the ‘Girls Night Out’ walk and Colin Knight raised over £800 by taking part in a ‘Jail and Bail’ event;
  • Geoff Hazlewood raised £300 for Macmillan by taking part in the Bungay Half Marathon;
  • Dave Richardson has raised £350 for Nelson’s Journey after setting himself the challenge of cycling 2,000 miles in 12 months;
  • Edward O’Rourke, Michael Frape and Mark Whittaker raised £1,800 for Romsey Mill in Cambridge by taking part in the 24 peaks challenge.

Edward O’Rourke, CEO at Ashtons Legal, commented: “It is great news that we have had yet another fantastic year of fundraising across the firm. Thank you to all our staff who have helped to reach this total, as well as our clients and external contacts who attended our fundraising events throughout the year or contributed to Wills Week.”
