Ashtons Legal helps Norfolk teenager to obtain compensation for severe brain injury obtained in a car crash

Ruth Booy, who heads the Ashtons Legal personal injury team, has obtained a settlement which will enable 15 year old Nicolle Kent from Dereham to access appropriate care and rehabilitation for the rest of her life.

Nicolle was seriously injured in a traffic collision in January 2006 and despite intensive treatment and rehabilitation continues to suffer a number of significant physical, cognitive and intellectual problems which render her dependent on others for most aspects of her daily care. Ruth explains:

“Nicolle’s family were travelling home from a visit to friends in January 2006 and had just turned off the A47 onto the A146 to the south of Norwich when their car was hit by another vehicle. The car was written off and Nicolle and her parents were all injured. The driver of the other vehicle was convicted in 2007 of driving without due care and attention.

Nicolle’s injuries were by far the most devastating and included a fractured skull. She spent three months in hospital and a further three months undergoing intensive residential rehabilitation; she is now supported by a community-based rehabilitation team.

Nicolle is not going to be able to earn her living and will continue to be heavily reliant on others for the rest of her life. The total settlement figure negotiated amounts to
